  The Weeping Mother It started with a shift that only her sense of smell caught. That musty, wet dirt smell that whispered the end of the drought was near. The breeze picked up, dancing among the trees and playing with her hair. The sky was turning dark grey and the chill heightened the senses. She looked up, willing the drops to fall from heaven, bringing life back to Earth. The first drop landed on her forehead, raced down her face and jumped off her chin to land on the parched ground.
