Love is a Sleepless Night Nights of easy slumber are a long ago memory. Worries about those I love cause peaceful night to elude me. Awoken by every cough or movement when he was small, When he was older it was the fear of every late night text or call. Last night excitement kept sleep away, Text messages through the night and day, Now sleepless nights for him will be norm, For today his baby daughter was born. -HCB
Thank You for Being You People swaying in the squeaking and bumping bus, Followed the ritual of avoiding direct eye contact. A sudden lurch, stopping and then the hiss of the doors opening, Eyes quickly glancing up to judge whether the person was worth the effort to make space. Absorbed in my own thoughts and fears of the cliquish highschool life, I had not noticed the new addition to our silent traveling group, Until she was only a few rows in front of me. Like me she was what people considered plus size. Unlike any larger woman that I had seen, She was dressed in a red business suit with an A skirt and heels, Not in sweats or a long frumpy skirt. She walked with a plan and sat down in an empty seat. I wish I had the courage to compliment her, Or even offer a smile, I would get off a few stops later - forever changed, A woman with my body type could look like a strong business woman. -HCB
Oh what a crooked tree, Gnarled and twisted but beautiful to me. Full of life's twists and turns, For each of life's challenges another one it earns. For rarely does one live a life, That does not come with problems and strife. My life crooked as it may be, Is just as beautiful as this gnarled twisted tree. HCB
